What we would like you to know about baby massages
Touch is very important for humans, especially in infancy stage. Studies have proven, that touch
increases the fighter cells within the body and helps strenghten the immune system. Massaging
baby improves weight gain, can relieve colic and will help baby sleep better.
Mom and Dad may even be able to massage away the 'cranky time' (as in colics) some babies have.
Start a massage and bath ritual about 1 hour before the identified time. Massage also helps to enhance
the parent/child bond and with a few helpful hint that you will find below, you can turn a few minutes
of fun time each day into a lifelong bond between you and your child.
Helpful hints to make baby's massage enjoyable, pleasant and comfortable.
Make sure the room is warm and without any drafts. Pre-warm a small amount of oil by rubbing oil
between your hands. Look into your baby's eyes, talking softly to him, letting him know how much
you love him/her.
Start with baby's head, face and neck, moving down to arms, then tummy and back down to legs
and feet. Use gentle but firm strokes. A touch to light my tickle baby and create discomfort.
Keep your eyes on your baby's eyes. His/her reaction will let you know if you are doing it right.
The massage should take about 15 minutes. Now it is time for baby's bath. Wrap baby in a towel
and put him/her into the crib or other safe place while you prepare everthing for baby's bath.
Be careful as he/she might be a little slippery after the massage. We believe that you and your baby
will enjoy this truly wonderful time together. Enjoy!
